A culinary experience and tasting the best local flavours in town is an absolute MUST when traveling to any destination. When visiting Paros island and searching the ultimate eats, you must plan a trip to Parikia and ad restaurant Stou Fred to your itinerary. This place is one of my best restaurant experiences around the world.
Parikia, Paros, is not your average Greek port that you find while island hopping the Cyclades. Parikia is filled with oceanfront restaurants, incredible history and an old town with narrow streets to completely get lost in. When I say getting lost, you will get lost on your way to Stou Fred. It’s an absolute hidden gem in town.
Together with my family, we visited Paros on our island-hopping trip in the Cyclades. At this time, I worked for one of the competitors of TripAdvisor and I knew there was a hidden gem restaurant in Paros to explore. It had been on my bucket list for quite a while and I knew NOW was the perfect time to try it out. FINALLY!
I told my family, I am taking care of the restaurant booking tonight. Start getting ready for a foodie surprise.
I took them into the city centre of Parikia and we started getting lost in the narrow streets reaching further away from the tourist hub. My boyfriend started shouting: “where the hell are you taking us… you must be lost!” Another turn, a few tiny greek houses and 10 local street cats further, we finally arrived at the entrance of the restaurant. It was quite a big door or gate leading into a hidden courtyard, literally in the middle of nowhere! While entering the courtyard, you just can’t believe your eyes, the place looks like a royal garden filled with plants, trees and flowers. Just WOW!
My family said: “OK Tess, this seems like a lovely place”.
We sat down and started checking the menu. While considering the options, Chef Fred Chesneau approached our table to explain more about the concept. My boyfriend, who is French, started speaking French to the Chef saying “WOW, I KNOW YOU FROM CANAL PLUS”. I was like huh!? I mean I knew I was taking them to a great place, but I didn’t know the chef was famous in France!?
Fred Chesneau is a famous culinary explorer that has his own TV show on Canal Plus traveling the world to taste the best local flavours and ultimate eats from around the world. He owns 2 restaurants, one in Paris and one in Paros, showcasing his 5-course signature menu that changes weekly according to the rhythms of the season.
Fred told us we must try his beetroot dish as the main course. Me and my sister’s faces were like, beetroot as the main course… Are you sure? He promised it would be worth it and so it was. Just an explosion of different flavors in your mouth, you don’t even notice you’re eating beetroot!
The menu 5 course tasting menu is only 55 euros. Trust me when I say it’s better than a one-starred Michelin restaurant. Really an 11 out of 10!
